Although the idea for the book was conceived a very long time ago, the story itself has evolved over the years. The idea came initially while I was hooked on Medal of Honor and Final Fantasy 7. Originally, the only psychic abilities was telepathy, but around re-write #4, I decided to do a complete overhaul and expand the range of the abilities. J.C. had always been a scientist and agent, but at one point, Amy had been a molecular biologist that gets kidnapped by J.C. and brought to the Centre.
I decided to purposely keep the location of the Centre vague because I wanted to create that mystery feel to it. They’re part of government that no one is supposed to know about so I wanted to reflect that and decided to put them in the isolation of the mountains. While they were always in the mountains, at one point, they were located in the Black Forest, Germany.
Why psychic ability? I’ve always loved the paranormal and all the sub categories. Psychics were the best of both worlds because they could encompass so much. I also didn’t want to lock myself into one sort of the ability so I decided to extend the range of what my characters could do.
